Drake 'Happy' At Young Money, Despite Rumors

'I really don't want to go anywhere,' Drake tells MTV News of rumblings that he's ready to leave Lil Wayne's label.

Drake made quite a few headlines when he announced his upcoming Club Paradise Tour at the top of October, though it might not have been the press he was looking for.

When Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, two non-Young Money artists, were revealed as the tour's other acts, rumors began to swirl that Drake is unhappy and wants to leave Lil Wayne's label.

"I never really know where those rumors stem from," Drake told MTV News. "I'm really happy at Young Money; I really don't want to go anywhere. Me and Wayne have a great relationship."

With the lesser-known Room for Improvement and Comeback Season mixtapes under his belt, Drake caught Weezy's attention through a mutual friend and was invited out on tour with the YM boss several months before releasing his breakout tape, So Far Gone. Under Wayne's tutelage, Drizzy Drake became a star, but as big as he's gotten, he still salutes the man who put him in prime position.

"At the end of the day, that's my boss. I'm his soldier. I'm cool with that. I'm good with that," he said. "That's the role I want to play. He put me here."

In a separate interview with MTV News, Wayne gave Drake his full support and offered Take Care a glowing endorsement. "I can tell you now, I don't know nothing else out there that can touch it, including my stuff. That kid is on another planet," he said of Drake's upcoming album.

The OVO general also pointed out the Young Money artists' ability to co-exist with one another, despite all the individual success, counting Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Tyga and the rest of the crew as friends. But Drake also has another group of friends, guys he grew up with in his native Toronto. When he drops Take Care on November 15, through his music, Drake will introduce you to his other crew.

"I spent a lot of time out there [in Toronto]; that's what this album is about. That's what I'm gonna showcase," Drake explained. "It's the same thing with the tour: I wanna bring Kendrick, I wanna bring A$AP. Those are guys that I love.

"It has nothing to do with people on my label," he continued. "Tyga's out, Nicki's working on an album, and everybody else is doing their thing on the road with Wayne or with Wayne in the studio, so I just sort of showcased the music that I happen to love right now, and those are the two guys that I'm bringing out."

Conrad Murray Calls Michael Jackson 'Deceptive'

In MSNBC's 'Fatal Friendship' documentary, doctor says that on the day he died, pop star was begging for propofol to help him sleep.
By James Montgomery

Photo: Getty Images

Dr. Conrad Murray, found guilty Monday of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson after a nearly six-week trial, says the King of Pop lied to him about his medical history during the time Murray served as his personal physician.

That's just one of the claims Murray makes in his controversial interview with NBC, conducted just days before his guilty verdict was read. It is part of a larger documentary called "Michael Jackson and the Doctor: A Fatal Friendship," set to air Friday (November 11) on MSNBC.

"I only wish that maybe in our dealings with each other, he was more forthcoming and honest to tell me things about himself," Murray says about his interactions with Jackson. "Certainly, he was deceptive by not sharing with me his whole medical history, doctors he was seeing, treatment that he might have been receiving." Murray also denies knowing Jackson had an addiction problem, though he admits he was attempting to wean the singer off the anesthetic propofol in his final days. On the day he died, Murray says Jackson was "a desperate man" who begged his physician for more propofol to help him sleep. According to trial testimony, Jackson's nickname for the drug was "milk."

"He asked me, 'Please, please, Dr. Conrad ... I need some milk so that I can sleep. If I don't get any sleep today, I cannot perform, I cannot do anything,' " Murray says. "He was pleading and begging me to please, please let him have some 'milk,' because that was the only thing that would work."

Earlier this week, in a letter to the heads of NBC, MSNBC and Comcast (which owns a majority stake in the NBCUniversal media conglomerate,) the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate blasted the "Fatal Friendship" documentary as "one-sided" and "reprehensible," and demanded MSNBC "exercise proper judgment and refrain from airing" the program. They also called into question whether or not the network paid Murray for his interview, a claim NBC has yet to address.

Rihanna's Talk That Talk: The Reviews Are In!

Critics call RiRi's sixth album 'often great' and 'relentlessly catchy.'
By John Mitchell

Rihanna
Photo: David Becker/Getty Images

Rihanna's much-anticipated Talk That Talk hit stores Monday on a wave of near-universal praise from critics. The album, which can already claim the #1 song in the country, "We Found Love" featuring Calvin Harris, is earning the Barbadian pop superstar the best reviews of her commercially massive career.

MTV News' James Montgomery already declared Talk That Talk "not only the best effort of her career, but arguably the best pop album of 2011," an assessment echoed by the New York Times, People, Rolling Stone and SPIN.

"The best songs on this lively and often great album sound synth-perfect for that time [the early 1990s]. 'We Found Love' almost criminally recalls the swinging Crystal Waters singles, with triumphant percussion somewhere between church and seventh-inning stretch," the Times writes. " 'Where Have You Been' is even better, with hard, chilly synths, snares from the poppier side of house music, and Rihanna moving in and out of a curled Siouxsie Sioux tone."

In a three-and-a-half -star review (out of four), People calls Talk That Talk "one of 2011's best pop-diva statements," while Spin awards the set an 8 out of 10, complimenting the "occasionally perfect pop" songs on the record and noting the set is easily Rihanna's most cohesive to date.

Rolling Stone also notes that Talk is far more than a collection of singles. "Rihanna's sixth album is her tightest, most assured yet — a relentlessly catchy and danceable pop album, with first-rate contributions from top songwriter-producers," the magazine writes.

Many critics also seem pleased that the pop star is moving away from the darker, brooding material that marked her last two records, Rated R and Loud. Those albums appeared to be heavily influenced by her troubled relationship with Chris Brown, and, as noted in Entertainment Weekly's B-plus review, often "equated falling for someone with feeling tortured."

On Talk, RiRi instead approaches the topics of love and sex — the album's principal themes — with a less-heavy hand, even admitting on "Roc Me Out": "I'll let you in on a dirty secret/ I just want to be loved."

While the album is mostly earning raves, Pitchfork had a few complaints — mostly that the brief set (the 11-track album clocks in at a mere 38 minutes) never fully realizes its potential.

In its summation of the album, Billboard calls Talk "a fleshed-out statement that captures Rihanna's relentless drive and will likely keep her on top. This album's not a victory lap; it's a whole new race."

Whether the mostly stellar reviews will translate into strong sales for Rihanna, who set a Billboard chart record by racking up 20 Top-10 singles faster than any solo artist, with "We Found Love," remains to be seen.

Singer treats U.K. fans to the party song during her O2 arena stop on Monday.
By Jocelyn Vena

Rihanna hit up the O2 arena on Monday for the second night of a three-night run at the famed London concert venue, and she had a special treat for those in attendance.

In footage posted on Idolator, the singer wraps up her classic track "Umbrella," and then takes a quick breath before telling the excited crowd, "I love you so much. Thank you." Next, the opening notes of "We Found Love" kick in, setting off a party vibe. This was the first time Rih has performed the Talk That Talk single live in the lead-up to her November 21 album release.

In the clip, she bounces around the stage with her backup dancers, shouting to the room, "Make some f---ing noise!" As the song wraps, glitter falls from the rafters with Rihanna descending from the stage to close out the show. After the concert, fans began tweeting positive feedback about the star's performance.

"@Rihanna killed it tonight at the o2 one of the best gigs ever!" @chaders92 wrote. "Never wanted it to end #LOUDtourUK"

@ZeniKristinaN added, "@Rihanna killed it tonight! And yess we made HISTORY on this very night! #LOUDtour2011"

Excitement over the show didn't let up with @Charlie_Dybell writing, "@Rihanna was immense. Girl can put on a mother of a show! #LondonO2fiveof10"

"We Found Love" Is the first single released off Rihanna's sixth album. Last Friday, she dropped the Dr. Luke-produced track "You Da One." "This is one of those records, it becomes very addictive," she told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show about her second single. "To me, it's very infectious: the more you listen to it, the more you want to listen to it. It had a reggae vibe, but it's a sweet little love letter. I love the record. It's kind of dirty, I love it."

Lady Gaga, Bono, Usher To Headline Bill Clinton Foundation Fundraiser

October 15 show will be streamed live over the Internet.
By Gil Kaufman

Even a dozen years removed from the White House, former president Bill Clinton still has that same superstar-attracting aura. That might explain why such bright lights as Lady Gaga, Bono and The Edge of U2, and Usher have signed on to perform at an October 15 party for Clinton at the Hollywood Bowl.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, details on the final list of performers and presenters are still being worked on, but an impressive list of movie and TV personalities are expected to sign on for the event, which is being billed as a celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Clinton's nonprofit William J. Clinton Foundation.

To date, the foundation has raised more than $10 billion for some of the ex-president's most cherished causes, including HIV/AIDS treatment, economic empowerment, food aid and global health initiatives. The show, which will also serve as a birthday party celebration for the former Democratic leader (who turned 65 on August 19), will be broadcast exclusively by Yahoo, which will stream "A Decade of Difference: A Concert Celebrating 10 Years of the William J. Clinton Foundation" worldwide to a potential audience of millions.

Clinton continues to travel the world doing good works, though he turned his attention homeward over the weekend when he participated in the 10th anniversary ceremonies of the September 11 terror attacks. He announced on Sunday that he will team with Republican House Speaker John Boehner in a bipartisan effort to raise the final $10 million needed to complete the Fight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Michael Jackson Estate: What's Next?

Post-Conrad Murray trial projects include Fan Fest in Las Vegas, Bad reissue and Cirque du Soleil's 'Immortal' soundtrack.
By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson
Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage

Michael Jackson has remained just as big a star in death as he was in life — if not bigger. Like Elvis, Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra and Tupac Shakur before him, interest in all things Jackson spiked following the singer's death and continues to be strong two years after his shocking passing on June 25, 2009.

Jackson's name has been in the news on a daily basis over the past month thanks to the involuntary manslaughter trial of his former physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who was found guilty, the jury announced Monday. It's not the kind of publicity the Jackson estate is looking for, but with the trial now over, the focus will likely turn to the next projects from the singer's vaults.

To date, the estate has been busy lining up one project after another, beginning with 2009's This Is It, the documentary on Jackson's planned comeback tour that grossed close to $200 million worldwide on its way to becoming the #2 music documentary of all time.

That was followed by the release of Michael, a posthumous album with unreleased Jackson tracks that sold more than 500,000 copies, alongside more than 1 million units of the This Is It soundtrack. There were also 3 million units shifted of the Ubisoft video game "Michael Jackson: The Experience," which helped rack up the more than $1 billion the estate has brought in since Jackson's death through a combination of music sales, film/TV revenue, music publishing, licensing and a $31 million recording contract with Sony.

Cirque du Soleil's traveling MJ extravaganza, "Immortal," made its American debut this month, boasting a soundtrack that features a number of mash-ups and reimaginings of the singer's music, plus some previously unheard bits. The show's soundtrack is slated to hit stores November 21.

When the show hits Las Vegas in December, it will coincide with the annual Michael Jackson Fan Fest (December 3-14), the ritual gathering of the flock that this year will include a raft of never-before-seen memorabilia from the King of Pop. Among the items at the first-ever estate-authorized fest at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino are the actual gates of Neverland Ranch, Jackson's personal book collection, the 1999 Rolls Royce Seraph limousine with 24-karat gold embellishments designed by the singer, the 10-foot-tall HIStory statue, the spaceship set from the "Scream" video, the throne from the Egyptian-themed "Remember the Time" clip and the tank from the "Earth Song" live performance.

Also reportedly due soon is a repackaging of Jackson's 1987 Bad album, which, like previous reissues, is expected to feature previously unearthed bonus material. The original album featured landmark songs such as the title track, "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror," "Smooth Criminal" and "Dirty Diana."

Given the amount of unreleased material that was reportedly left in the vaults at Jackson's death, there is a strong possibility that another album of unheard tunes could be in the offing soon as well.

Are you excited to hear more unreleased tracks from the King of Pop? Tell us below!

How Did Bruno Mars End Up On Song Of Summer 'Lighters'?

Singer jokes that a 'freestyle battle' with Eminem landed him on Bad Meets Evil track.
By Jocelyn Vena

Bruno Mars
Photo: Shirlaine Forrest/ Getty Images

Over on the MTV Newsroom blog, it was a heated battle for 2011's Song of the Summer. Would it be Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Katy Perry or LMFAO? Or would Bad Meets Evil (Eminem and Royce Da 5'9'') bring home the title for hip-hop heads everywhere?

Well, on Wednesday (September 7), the world spoke, and the summer jam that reigned supreme was Bad Meets Evil's feel-good anthem "Lighters," featuring Bruno Mars. Earlier this summer, MTV News caught up with Mars, and he revealed just how he ended up on the track.

"It was a freestyle battle," he joked. "I said, 'Yo, Em, if I beat you, you're gonna have to do a song with me!' I shut him down right then and there."

What's no joke is the way fans have been connecting with the track, which proudly declares, "This one's for you and me living out our dreams/ We're all right where we should be/ With my arms out wide I open my eyes/ And now all I wanna see is a sky full of lighters."

Now that Mars and his crew are the ruling Kings of Summer, he is planning his next big move, which includes a top-secret new track. "I'm definitely thinking about what's next," he said. "I've got a song that I just wrote that I'm extremely proud of and I worked really hard on, and it's gonna come out soon."

While he wouldn't say much else, he teased that the song was for Michael Bolton before admitting, "No, it's for me."

In addition to working on more tracks for his own bustling career, he shared that he'd love to get into the studio with Cee Lo Green again, and even Lil Wayne. "But this is just the very beginning and there's a lot more to come."

What are you expecting next from Bruno Mars? Let us know in the comments!

Christina Aguilera Jokes About Her National Anthem Flub

'That night I knew I just made myself a Trivial Pursuit question,' 'The Voice' judge tells Ellen DeGeneres.
By Gil Kaufman

Christina Aguilera performs at the Super Bowl
Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images

On the day her new show is set to debut, Christina Aguilera stops by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Tuesday (April 26) to discuss her new gig on "The Voice" and finally answer some questions about why she forgot the lyrics to the national anthem during this year's Super Bowl.

The former child star essentially chalked the incident up to nerves and said she just got caught up in the excitement of it all. "I took in the moment a little bit too much," Aguilera said of flubbing the lyrics to "The Star Spangled Banner," which she said she's been singing since she was 7 or 8 years old.

"Shoot me for appreciating the moment, but here I am at the Super Bowl ... singing for a team and in front of the world. And remembering what it was like to be that young and look where I made it now," she said.

The Grammy-winning singer apologized for the flub in a statement issued shortly after the game, saying, "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through." The slip-up came at the front end of a flurry of bad headlines for Aguilera, who was picked up for a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication in March, after tripping onstage at the Grammys the month before during a tribute to Aretha Franklin. She also recently finalized her divorce from husband Jordan Bratman.

With most of those difficult times behind her, Aguilera told DeGeneres that she's learned her lesson and is moving on. "That night I knew I just made myself a Trivial Pursuit question," she said of the lyrical slip. "In 2011, what female singer, ya know, flubbed the lyrics. It's just insane. ... But I have a really good laugh about it and you get over things. You get back up again and you just prove to yourself and to everyone you're that much stronger."

'Breaking Dawn' Box Office: What It Means For 'Part 2'

Box-office experts weigh in on whether 'Twilight' series can top blockbuster 'Harry Potter' finale.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Opening weekend has come and gone for the first part of the "Twilight Saga" finale, and "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" bowed to an impressive $139.5 million at the box office, just short of the series-record $142 million for "New Moon" in 2009.

But $139.5 million is certainly nothing to shake a stick at, and a number of box-office experts MTV News spoke with agreed that the number represents a serious accomplishment, despite coming up just short.

"When the final numbers come in today, 'Breaking Dawn' will have the fifth-best opening ever, a record I'm sure every studio wouldn't mind having," said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. "And even though 'Breaking Dawn' will always be in the shadow of 'New Moon,' which hit $142 million two years ago when it debuted over the same weekend, 'Breaking Dawn,' and the 'Twilight' franchise in general, is one of those rare commodities in Hollywood that sustains its audience from film to film."

The question of the drop in revenue from "New Moon" still remains. By normal box-office logic, returns would ramp up in anticipation for the finale, yet the penultimate entry in the series could not top the second. Phil Contrino, editor of Boxoffice.com, said it has to do with the fanbase.

"I think a healthy portion of the audience is growing up and forgetting about this franchise. It's not enough to put a significant dent in the grosses, but there's definitely an impact," he said.

As "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" approaches, fans of both the "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" series anxiously await to see which finale will come out on top at the box office. Gitesh Pandya from Box Office Guru said Potter's record will remain.

"Since 'Part 2' is the final 'Twilight' film, I expect it to open a little higher and maybe even beat 'New Moon,' " Pandya said. "But it won't match the numbers for the final 'Harry Potter' unless it's converted into 3-D."

'Dark Knight Rises' Is 'Just Epic,' Gary Oldman Says

'I will say this: There's a conclusion,' actor tells MTV News of 'Rises' being the last in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Gary Oldman may have learned his lesson about speaking candidly when it comes to Batman movies.

When he spoke with MTV News' Josh Horowitz while promoting "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," Oldman measured each word about "The Dark Knight Rises" carefully.

Quite a few seconds passed before Oldman started to answer our first question about the next Batman movie, but he assured Horowitz that it was not something to read into. Oldman was quick to recount the tale of the time he opened up at Comic-Con two years ago and said the next Batman film would happen in the next year or so.

"It went around the world," Oldman marveled. "[Warner Bros. is] the studio, and it's their prerogative."

When he finally did open up about the purported finale of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, Oldman offered up some insights into the overall vision of the film.

"I will say this: There's a conclusion. He touches on the first [film] and weaves it in," he said. "It resolves. I think it's a trilogy. It's just great. The story is terrific. It is just epic."

One of the biggest shadows "The Dark Knight Rises" will need to escape is the legacy of Heath Ledger's iconic performance. Oldman said the choice of Bane as the villain was a strategic one on Nolan's part.

"I think it was smart of Chris to go with a lesser-known villain rather than — because Heath's performance, first of all, we love the Joker in Batman," Oldman said. "Heath's performance was so dazzling that you got to think, 'How the hell do I top it?' Instead of going for Riddler, instead of going for Penguin, he's gone a slightly different way with the story."

Finally, Oldman commented on the essential role of "Rises" in Nolan's Batman story, saying it is something more than a cash grab. "I think [Nolan's] got enough smarts and enough class. I know this much about Chris Nolan: He wouldn't make a third for the sake of it," he said.

Check out everything we've got on "The Dark Knight Rises."

Usher And David Guetta 'Proud' Of 'Without You'

'When you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is,' Usher tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Jim Cantiello

When Usher and David Guetta hooked up for the French DJ's latest album, Nothing but the Beat, the two superstars created a chart-topping smash, "Without You," that combines Guetta's ear for house beats and Usher's ability to convey a range of emotions with his voice. It's a song that has really stuck with fans of all genres of music.

The track — a swirling pop ode to not giving up on love in the face of adversity — struck Usher with its emotional core.

"David Guetta is an amazing artist," he told MTV News last week at a Pencils of Promise charity event. "We talked for many years about working together, and we found a record that was incredible."

Usher said it was a song that resonated with him personally. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. There's many different genres, and when you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is."

When MTV News talked to Guetta on the American Music Awards red carpet Sunday, he said "Without You" is a standout track on the album. The LP dropped earlier this year and also includes Nicki Minaj, who performed with Guetta at the AMAs.

"It's one of my favorite songs," he said. "It's just, I'm a DJ, so I want to make people dance always, but I also want to give emotions. When it comes to that, 'Without You' is probably one of the most emotional songs that I've done, and yes, I'm very proud of that record."

A lawyer for Mariah Yeater confirmed reports Wednesday (November 16) that the California woman had dropped her paternity suit against Justin Bieber.

After TMZ reported that Yeater had been dropped by the attorneys representing her and that they had withdrawn the claim last week, Chicago attorney Jeffrey Leving told MTV News that the suit is, technically, off but that negotiations are happening behind-the-scenes for a settlement.

"We are still pursuing a DNA test and ... if it's positive, our desire for child support is still active," said Leving, who confirmed that a motion to dismiss the paternity action was filed November 9 in San Diego. "We could refile the paternity case tomorrow if we wanted, but we are attempting to settle the case out of court."

Leving said his office is in negotiations with Bieber's attorney in the case, Los Angeles-based Howard Weitzman, to settle the matter. Weitzman could not be reached for comment at press time.

Leving said he was legally barred from commenting on his decision to withdraw the petition but described it as part of a strategy to negotiate a confidentiality agreement and child-support payments as part of an out-of-court settlement. He said his co-counsel in California had been in touch with Weitzman and that he has also brought on a detective to investigate what he claimed were death threats against Yeater.

Though he is now directing the case, Leving said he has been involved from the beginning but did not participate in the decision by Yeater's two former San Diego attorneys to file the paternity suit. He has also barred Yeater from doing any further media appearances or interviews. "She's a 20-year-old single mom with no money and no job trying to raise an infant, and she's being harassed and stalked," he said.

Last week, Bieber's camp confirmed that the 17-year-old singer would take a paternity test as soon as he returns from a European promotional jaunt in celebration of his just-released Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe.

Bieber's team vigorously denied the claim from the moment Yeater launched the paternity action earlier this month. Yeater claimed in a signed affidavit in the suit that she had unprotected sex with Bieber last October in a backstage area at one of the singer's concerts at Los Angeles' Staples Center and that her 4-month-old baby is his.

On Wednesday, Bieber's spokesperson once again maintained the pop star's innocence when asked to respond to reports that the suit had been dropped. "As we've said from the beginning, it's sad that someone would fabricate such a malicious, defamatory, and demonstrably false claim," Matthew Hiltzik said in a statement. "We'll continue to consider all of our options to protect Justin."

Asked to respond to suggestions that the withdrawal of the paternity suit appeared to weaken Yeater's claim, Leving said he felt just the opposite was true. "The case is stronger now because we can negotiate outside of court," he said. "I believe her. I believe she had sexual intercourse with him and I do believe he is the father of the child."

Because Leving is pursuing a nondisclosure agreement, he said, ideally, nobody will know the results of the DNA test either way. "If it's negative, we'll deal with it. If it's positive, we'll deal with it when that happens," he said. "But hopefully whether it's positive or negative, nobody will know."
