D Major covers John Lennon's Woman

Reggae singer D Major has a potential hit in his latest single, a cover of John Lennon's Woman.

"I always liked this song and how emotional Lennon sounded when he sang it. I am a big fan of John Lennon and the Beatles so covering the song was truly an honour," D Major explained.

D Major's Woman is produced by Donovan Germain and is released on the Penthouse label.

A former member of the group QT, the singer appeared on the hit Real Friends which featured Christopher Martin and Assassin two years ago.

In 2010 when he recorded Party Like it's Your Birthday with Busy Signal and Richie Loop that track soared to the top of local charts.

Robert Minott collaborates with Busy Signal Singer Robert Minott's latest song Someone to Love features dancehall artiste Busy Signal. Plans for an accompanying video are currently in the pipeline.

Minott, who scored last year with Right Man Fi Yuh, is currently riding high with another song, Silver Words which features Jamaica-born rapper Kirkie KBZ.

Director Nordia Rose will direct the video for Someone to Love.

Rasco drops new singles

Emerging dancehall artiste Rasco has released a handful of new singles following the success of his latest recording, Anytime, with Chan Dizzy.

He recently recorded No Hesitation for producer Sensi on the Head Concussion label. Other forthcoming singles include Rude Bwoy Rankin for producer Sniggy; Rollin and Gnarly produced by Russian; and Chrome Skin for JonFX.

"I have been putting in a lot of work and I know that this will help me in my goal to be successful," he said.

CHART UPDATES

A bit of Caribbean flavour got into the UK Pop Singles chart this week.

Cover Drive, a four-member band from Barbados, topped the chart with their single Twilight. They are the second act from Barbados to score a number one song in the UK, after Rihanna.

Sad news that Don Cornelius allegedly committed suicide this week in Los Angeles. The smooth-talking Cornelius was creator, host and producer ofthe long-running American television series Soul Train. But did you know that he and his business partner Dick Griffey launched a record label in 1975 called Soul Train Records?

The label was home to the Soul Train Gang, the Whispers, Carrie Lucas, Shalamar and a group called Sunbear. After a disagreement, Cornelius left the label, and Griffey renamed it Solar Records.
