Veteran Jamaican musician Winston Riley of the Techniques fame, will be buried this Friday, February 3.
This was confirmed by the late producer's son, radio personality and disc jock Kurt Riley.
The younger Riley says the service will be held at Kingston's Holy Trinity Cathedral on North Street, beginning at 1:00 pm.
Riley, who began his career in the burgeoning days of Jamaica's music as part of the legendary group the Techniques with hits You Don't Care and Queen Majesty, died at the University Hospital of the West Indies on January 19 from wounds he sustained late last year when he was shot in the head at his St Andrew home. He was 65 years old.
In the late 1960s, Riley shifted gears and moved into music production, establishing the Techniques record label and its base along Orange Street in the heart of downtown Kingston. It would be this phase of his life that Riley would have the most impact on Jamaican music particularly in the 1970s and '80s.
His Double Barrel and Stalag rhythms have gone on to create a name for themselves. Stalag would give birth to the popular Ring The Alarm by Tenor Saw and General Echo's iconic Arlene. The rhythm is also said to have been the inspiration for an estimated 400 songs.
